An 8-year-old girl in Quzhou, China, had a bit of an adventure after her dance class. Separated from her grandfather, she wandered around until she stumbled upon an ATM kiosk. Instead of just using it to check her balance, she discovered it had an emergency button. With a touch of the button, she was connected to the bank’s call center, according to the South China Morning Post.
The girl explained to a Quzhou Rural Commercial Bank employee that she was lost and didn’t have any contact numbers for her family. The bank employee, taking the situation seriously, reached out to the police and stayed on the line to keep the girl calm.
The officers from the Kaihua County Public Security Bureau arrived promptly and managed to reunite the girl with her family, thanks to her knowing her own address. Turns out, her mother had given her a heads-up about using the ATM’s emergency features if she ever needed help.
Interestingly, many ATMs in the city come with two emergency buttons: one for direct calls to get help and another for setting off an alarm. Clearly, this little girl used the right button for her “Help, I’m Lost” scenario!
