France has granted political asylum to notorious organized criminal Kanjipani Imran. This information surfaced after the shootout that killed nightclub owner Wasantha Perera.
Drug lord Kanjipani Imran has become a key suspect in this brutal killing, which was conducted in a Chicago-style execution. The shootout operation took only thirty seconds, and the two assassins fled the area in a car, which they abandoned in the Karathota area close to Kaduwela. They later drove away in a white van towards Kaduwela. The van was found in the Bulathsinhala area, but the assassins are still at large.
Police Spokesman Nihal Thalduwa said that airport officials had been informed to be extra vigilant soon after the incident. Still, there was a possibility of the assassins escaping via a sea route. It is said that Kanjipani Imran fled the country to India by boat while he was on bail. Intelligence reports reveal that Kanjipani Imran has attempted to operate from Tamil Nadu, Pakistan, and Dubai.
How is Kanjipani Imran Operating?
Kanjipani Imran started by selling congee or rice porridge near a Muslim mosque in Kotahena, Colombo. He soon mastered the underworld and is now among the criminals red-listed by Interpol. Kanjipani Imran was very closely connected to drug lord and notorious criminal Makandure Madush.
Imran and Madush were both arrested while attending a birthday party and later extradited to Sri Lanka.
Kanjipani Imran attempted to flee to the Maldives directly from the Katunayake airport but was arrested at the airport and later produced in court. He made death threats in court to another suspect, saying that he would kill him as he killed Samayang, an underworld drug lord who was shot with several others while travelling to court in a prison bus.
As revealed by former DIG Priyantha Jayakody, Kanjipani Imran is a suspect in at least ten other murders in the Colombo city area. According to intelligence reports, Imran has been able to develop a network of connections with drug dealers in Dubai, Afghanistan, and now probably in the West. There is no doubt that Kanjipani Imran is well-connected, resourced, and organized.
