Malaysia has become the first country to warn its citizens against visiting the UK as riots continue across the country. The notice was released by Malaysia’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, which said it is “closely monitoring the series of protests currently taking place in several areas of the United Kingdom, following the stabbing incident in Southport on July 29.”
Malaysians were urged to register their presence with the country’s High Commission in London. The ministry stated: “Malaysians residing in or travelling to the United Kingdom are urged to stay away from protest areas, remain vigilant, and follow the latest updates and guidance provided by local authorities.”
Incident and Aftermath
Three young girls were tragically stabbed and killed while attending a dance event in Southport, with eight more children seriously injured. Two adults are also in critical condition. False rumours about the suspect’s background, ethnicity, and religion spread online following the attack, further fueling tensions.
Riots Erupt
Today, riots erupted in Middlesbrough and Rotherham. Hundreds of far-right protesters clashed with police at Middlesbrough’s Cenotaph, throwing bricks, cans, and pots at officers. One protester shouted, “It’s our f******* country.” Another group in Middlesbrough walked through a residential area, smashing windows of houses and cars, with racial slurs also being heard.
Prime Minister’s Controversial Holiday
Sir Keir Starmer is facing mounting criticism this morning after it emerged that he is planning to leave for his first holiday as Prime Minister despite the ongoing rioting crisis. The revelations of the Prime Minister’s plan for a summer break emerged last night, with Deputy Prime Minister Angela Rayner set to take the helm of the Government in his absence.
As the UK grapples with this period of unrest, Malaysia’s advisory underscores the serious international concern about the safety and stability of the country.
