The Sri Lankan airlines have been on sale for some time once again it has failed to attract a buyer. The loss-making airline is a heavy burden on the economy.
The State-un Sri Lankan Airlines had lost 112.8 billion rupees in the first half of the 2022/2023 financial year.
Now the cabinet of ministers has terminated the current sale process of Sri Lankan Airlines, Sri Lanka’s State Owned Enterprises Restructuring Unit said.
The government “will now follow an alternate strategy, to be decided on shortly, to divest the airline based on a framework approved by the Cabinet of Ministers,” the statement said.
Six parties responded to the initial call for expressions of interest, but no party was pre-qualified.
I t is unlikely that there is going to be a quick fix for the Sri Lankan issue and it seems that the taxpayers will have to bear this burden for some time.
