A number Of social media post had speculated that actress Piumi Hansamali will be arrested sometime soon but no such thing is going to happen immediately. The Attorney General has informed the Court of Appeal that actress Piumi Hansamali, who is under investigation over alleged money laundering charges, will not be arrested until September 20, 2024.
However, the court was informed that the relevant investigations carried out by the Illegal Assets Investigations Division of the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) into her wealth, can be carried out without any hindrances.
Appearing on behalf of the Attorney General, the Deputy Solicitor General has communicated this to the court when a petition filed by Hansamali, seeking a writ order to suspend the said investigations, was taken up before Appeals Court Judge Sobhitha Rajakaruna today (15).
Actress Piyumi Hansamali has filed a petition with the Court of Appeal seeking a writ order to suspend the investigations being carried out against her by the Illegal Assets Investigations Division of the Criminal Investigation Department (CID).
The petition has named several officials including the Inspector General of Police (IGP) and the Director of the CID as respondents.
Hansamili claims that she has been able to make millions with a whitening cream which has raked massive profits. How there are many who are questioning the validity of these claims.
Hansamali, who highlights in her petition that the Illegal Assets Investigations Division of the CID has launched an investigation against her, alleges that the manner in which the investigation is carried out is not justified and that it has cause severe prejudice to her.
