Republican Heads Explode Over Taylor Swift’s Kamala Harris Endorsement
Taylor Swift’s endorsement of Vice President Kamala Harris has rattled Republicans, including Donald Trump himself. Swift endorsed Harris, the Democratic presidential candidate, in an Instagram post shortly after the debate between Kamala Harris and former President Donald Trump on Tuesday night. With more than 280 million fans known as ‘Swifties,’ Taylor Swift’s endorsement can carry significant weight.
How Swift Endorsed Harris
Endorsing Kamala Harris, the mega star wrote in a post on Instagram, “If you haven’t already, now is a great time to do your research on the issues at hand and the stances these candidates take on the topics that matter to you the most.”
She continued, “I will be casting my vote for Kamala Harris and Tim Walz in the 2024 Presidential Election. I’m voting for Kamala Harris because she fights for the rights and causes, I believe need a warrior to champion them. I think she is a steady-handed, gifted leader and I believe we can accomplish so much more in this country if we are led by calm and not chaos.”
She also mentioned about using of her AI generated post by Donld Trump in social media.
“Recently I was made aware that AI of ‘me’ falsely endorsing Donald Trump’s presidential run was posted to his site. It really conjured up my fears around AI, and the dangers of spreading misinformation. It brought me to the conclusion that I need to be very transparent about my actual plans for this election as a voter. The simplest way to combat misinformation is with the truth.”
She concluded, “I’ve done my research, and I’ve made my choice. Your research is all yours to do, and the choice is yours to make. I also want to say, especially to first time voters: Remember that in order to vote, you have to be registered! I also find it’s much easier to vote early. I’ll link where to register and find early voting dates and info in my story.”
Swift, 34, signed off her statement as “childless cat lady,” a clear swipe at GOP vice presidential nominee JD Vance, who has mocked and dismissed women without biological children.
Impact of the endorsements
There’s no doubt that Ms. Swift has sway with her legions of fans. There was a total of 405,999 visits to Vote.gov through the link on Ms. Swift’s Instagram story in the 24 hours it was live, far more than the site’s daily average of 30,000 in early September, according to a General Services Administration spokesperson.
After Oprah Winfrey endorsed Barack Obama in the 2008 Democratic primary, researchers found that Ms. Winfrey’s endorsement resulted in an additional one million votes for Mr. Obama in the primary, out of more than 30 million votes cast.
Republicans’ Reactions
Shortly after Taylor Swift’s endorsement, Elon Musk, who has endorsed Donald Trump, waded into the discussion in a notably sleazy manner. Musk, 53,the richest man on the planet, suggested to impregnate her. On X, he wrote: ‘Fine, Taylor … you win … I will give you a child and guard your cats with my life.’
Trump himself offered a somewhat vague threat to the singer, saying, “She’ll probably pay a price for it at the, uh, in the marketplace.”
Vice presidential candidate J.D. Vance speaking with Fox News said, “I don’t think most Americans, whether they like her music or are fans of hers or not, are gonna be influenced by a billionaire celebrity who I think is fundamentally disconnected from the interests and the problems of most Americans.”
Megyn Kelly, a right-wing pundit and ardent Trump supporter, lashed out at Taylor Swift with vulgar and offensive comments. “I’m allowed to criticize Taylor Swift, and I don’t give a [f**k] who gets upset,” Kelly raged. “This is disgusting. If she wants to vote Harris-Walz, she can do it all she wants. But to say the reason she’s doing it is because of Tim Walz’s stance on LGBTQ? F you Taylor Swift.”, Kelly bellowed on her podcast, The Megyn Kelly Show.
Tim Walz is the vice-presidential candidate for the Democratic Party.
