Popular singer K. Sujeewa has now returned home after being shot at the Athurugiriya tattoo bar opening, where Luxman Wasantha Perera and K. Nayana Wasula were also shot, resulting in their deaths.
Sujeewa’s husband, Nayana Wasula, succumbed to his injuries, but the controversy has been mounting, and a campaign continues against the family. Sujeewa’s daughter, Anjali Rajkumar, said they are subject to a campaign that fuels hatred against them.
A Plan to Kill
A prominent Buddhist priest from Gampaha, who participated in a YouTube show, said that the Sujeewa family regularly quarreled and suggested there could have been a plan to kill Nayana Wasula in addition to Luxman Wasantha. The priest claimed that Mahanama, a former Buddhist priest, gained fame, money, and prominence, which led him to engage in intimate connections, alcohol, and other worldly pleasures.
The Buddhist priest, who has been revealing Mahanama’s past on social media, stated that Mahanama was a good orator who toured many European countries and amassed massive wealth. Allegedly, he had LKR eight billion in one account and transferred four billion to Sujeewa’s account just before the shooting incident. Nayana Wasula drove a BMW and had an apartment in Colombo.
Anjali Rajkumar, K. Sujeewa’s eldest daughter, said it was unfair to portray their mother as a gold digger. She emphasized that Nayana Wasula and K. Sujeewa lived a happy married life.
Another prominent Buddhist priest, who appeared in a YouTube show, said that the wealth accumulated should be given back to the temple as it was money collected by preaching the Buddhist doctrine.
The priest also claimed that K. Sujeewa’s daughters wanted to have Nayana Wasula’s funeral in a hurried and hushed manner.
Slow Recovery
Daughter Anjali Rajkumar mentioned that K. Sujeewa is recovering slowly and that it will take some time before she returns to an active life. Initially, doctors thought her legs would need to be amputated, but now she is out of danger of amputation, according to Anjali Rajkumar.
While many criticized K. Sujeewa, especially during her hospital stay, some praised her daughters for their courageous manner in facing the situation. Critics at the funeral parlor condemned their mother for marrying a disrobed priest. Many allegations and criticisms about K. Sujeewa, her late husband, and her family may not be verifiable, but it is certain that a vicious exchange of words and a campaign fueled with allegations will continue for some time.
